
Meet Dr. Chess
Dr. Chukwurah, also known as ‘Dr. Chess’ is a Board-Certified foot and ankle surgeon and Podiatrist practicing in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Chukwurah (aka Dr. Chess) was born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 with the goal of obtaining quality education and fulfilling his dream of becoming a doctor. He received his first degree in Microbiology at Brigham Young University where he was on the Dean’s list. He went on to receive his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Iowa and completed his Surgical Residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, where he was a Chief Surgical Resident.
Dr. Chess has a particular excitement for life and a desire to work with his patients to resolve all their foot and ankle concerns and ailments. He enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, weightlifting, and bodybuilding, and has competed in and won a few Physique Competitions in New Mexico. He is a trained opera singer and was a member of the Utah Opera Company after graduating from college. He enjoys playing the piano, church pipe organ, teaching in church, and above all—spending time with his family.
He is certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot, rear foot and ankle reconstruction. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
He is an expert in Diabetic Limb Salvage, as well as Amputation Prevention and has incorporated several protocols into his practice to help keep his patients on their feet. He received special training in Basic and Advanced Microsurgery which comes in handy when dealing with complex wound and tissue management. He specializes in treating foot and ankle pain using Class IV Laser Therapy and Ultrasound-based Shockwave Therapy. He is trained in Fat Pad Augmentation with Dermal Fillers and when indicated, will use this modality for managing painful bony prominences of the foot and ankle.
